Future Movement has let down the military institution. Despite Fouad Siniora and Bahiya Hariri's many attempts to sugarcoat their stances on protecting people's rights in Sidon and clinging to the state, little did they manage to hide their intention to strip the army from Sunnis support and to leave it to deal alone with the aftermath of Abra's operation, the military has staged to counter an appalling attack on its members.

Doubts were then raised over Future Movement, especially as the sheer sectarian rhetoric unearthed its will to preserve what was left for it among Sunnis. The Movement has just turned into a part of the sectarian fever sweeping Lebanon and the region, in addition to its fishy relation with the Assir phenomenon at a time where the military institution bears the brunt of curbing a strife that might explode in no time, considering the proliferation of security pockets nationwide.

Some believe that Future Movement promoting for Hizbullah's participation in the battle alongside the army aims to apprehend Sunnis rancor or maybe to resume a former campaign against the Resistance. Anyway, this propaganda indeed harmed the military institution, which has paid huge sacrifices while dealing with Assir's phenomenon. Future Movement seemingly sought to lampoon the army's accomplishment, return the confrontation with security pockets to square 1, and deprive the army from the momentum and verve it had reaped following Abra battle, especially as it is still facing other security challenges in other regions.

Mrad: Future condemned attack on Assir!

Sunni leaderships were not dismayed at Future Movement's position from ending Assir's phenomenon. Head of Ittihad Party, former minister Abdul Rahim Mrad, said that Assir was not a stranger to Future Movement, adding that the source of funds and weapons he received is known. "Even the condemnation uttered by Future Movement and the rest of March 14 forces seemed as if it was a condemnation of the attack on Assir and as if it justified Assir's attack on the army," he noted.

For his part, the Imam of al-Quds Mosque in Sidon, Sheikh Maher Hammoud, saw that Future Movement's support for the army was not honest. "This support came within a larger context. It was not clear enough, except for the statement of Saad Hariri which we upheld and said it must be taken into account, when he said that Hizbullah's mistakes should not justify shooting the army.

This was the only explicit thing that was voiced by Future Movement. But what Fouad Siniora, Bahiya Hariri, and others said was not," he said.
Besides, Mrad indicated that Future Movement and March 14 accusations of Hizbullah were not groundbreaking or even recent. "The military institution has officially confirmed that Hizbullah did not fight alongside the army in the confrontations. Did any Hizbullah member fall in the battle? This is impossible. This is nonsense. They are just justifying Ahmad Assir's attack on the army," he added.

Hammoud, for his part, said that such accusations were dangerous and had nothing to do with reality. They are just an attempt to conceal and twist the truth, he deemed.
Future Movement and March 14 camp failed to criticize or even hold responsible Ahmad Assir. The purposed exclusion implied an indirect condemnation of the army and a slander of Hizbullah. It was remarkable how March 14 media means dashed to fabricate a civil-nay epic-- tragedy on the end of Assir phenomenon.

They concocted their tally on Assir's innocence and distress, even on sacrifices made by his men. This is what infuriated Sheikh Hammoud, who said, "The worst is when they said that a trap was set to both Assir and the army. This is meant to sow strife."

Hammoud: There shall be no leniency with security pockets

While Mrad underlines that Lebanon is no more capable to bear security turmoil and that it is about time to opt for dialogue, he also notes that the army has entered now a new phase . "I believe even if the army did not enjoy full political cover from all political forces, the tremendous support given by the people would be enough because people do believe that the army is the security valve and the guarantee of stability and unity. The army is mandated by the people to carry on facing any security incident," he said.

Sheikh Hammoud agrees with the former minister in terms of the army's next mission. "The bet on the army to curb any bid to tamper with civil peace was enhanced. The presence of other tension pockets is not farfetched. But I assume that after Sidon case, commotion against the army is less likely to come off. There is political decision now not to be lenient if arms are used aimed at the army. We just hope such events do not take place again."
