07-08-2013 | 12:28 Reports emerged Wednesday detailing a new massacre in which 450 Kurds - including 120 children - were slaughtered by al-Qaeda-linked militants. The report has sparked international concern. The current turn of events "makes the Geneva-2 conference even more pressing. The longer we wait, the more innocent civilians will die," the FM added. According to reports, militants from the al-Nusra Front attacked the town of Tal Abyad on Monday, killing 120 children and 330 women and elderly near the Turkish border. The channels also ran horrific uncensored footage from the scene. "The al-Nusra militants and other rebel forces surrounded the village," Yasin Tarbush, the relative of one of the Kurdish attack victims, told RT. "They started going door to door, entering every house. If there were any men, they killed them and took the women and children hostage." On another level, sixty-two militants fighters were killed in a Syrian army ambush at dawn on Wednesday near the town of Adra, east of Damascus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights mentioned the toll. For its part, SANA did not give a death toll for the ambush but clarified that the militants were from the al Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front. It said all the rebels were killed and machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades were confiscated. A Syrian military source quoted by state news agency Sana said the "army carried out an ambush on a group of terrorists belonging to the al-Nusra Front that was trying to infiltrate Eastern Ghuta and attack a military post." "All the terrorists were killed and their arms captured," the source added, without giving a toll. Adra, 35 kilometers from Damascus, is the gateway to Eastern Ghuta, a farming region where a large number of rebels are located. On another note, a Jordanian security official said that border police have arrested five Syrians to smuggle a large cache of arms into the kingdom. The official said Wednesday that anti-tank missiles, surface-to-air missiles and assault rifles were seized. Source: News Agencies, Edited by website team |
