Even if al-Manar TV’s apology to the Bahraini regime was intended to support the Bahraini people in their struggle for freedom, it should be completely rejected.
And even if the Bahraini people themselves were the ones who requested that such an apology be offered, so as to bring them closer to their quest for liberation, it is still objectionable through and through.
And if it were claimed that the apology to such a reactionary and oppressive regime is in the interest of al-Manar across the world, it would remain out of the question.
There is a school to which the Resistance’s television station supposedly belongs that rejects these kinds of compromises and capitulations. Do those behind this humiliating decision know that they have betrayed the blood of our martyrs?
Thankfully, Hezbollah’s leadership quickly confirmed that the decision was made by their media arm, the Lebanese Communication Group (LCG), without consulting them.
They insisted that their position toward the oppressed Bahraini people has not changed at all, and that they are the ones who deserve an apology, adding, “We consider that the media have not done enough to expose the injustice that the Bahraini people have suffered.”
This step by the Resistance was in the right direction, confirming the party’s refusal to compromise on such matters. The people of Bahrain are in need of supporters to stand with them at every moment of their struggle.
What we at Al-Akhbar and other media outlets are doing remains below what is needed to confront the criminal Bahraini regime, backed as it is by al-Saud’s kingdom of reaction, which maintains a reign of terror on the people of the Arabian Peninsula.
The way to treat this matter is to go beyond dissociating the party from those who made the decision to offer the oppressor an apology. They must be held accountable for their actions and asked simply to resign from their posts after offering supporters of the resistance an apology, live on the air!
