Because our present is the neonate of our history, and because he who isn't aware of his past won't be able to plan for the future, Najdat Anzour sought to reveal what is hidden under the sands.
The famous director, from the Levant, decided to shake the worn-out sandy land in the Gulf and uncover the snakes' holes. He attempted to correct some of the fore-granted history which had prepared for the permanent waves of terrorism.
Thus, it was the "King of the Sands."
In an interview with al-Ahed news, Anzour clarified that the film is a biopic of Abdul Aziz ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Saud, also known as Ibn Saud, an emir of the central Arabian al-Saud clan and founder of the present-day kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
"It is the first time someone decides to face the Saudi royal family's taboos. Hardly had they worked to convey the image of Abdul Aziz as a man of unity and heroism," the director stated.
The landmark taboo-breaking film, depicted a 'dichotomous' story.
According to its director, the film is based on historic researches away from fake heroism and unreal glories.
"Given the daily terrorism our region is facing, I found the film a must to uncover the roots of terrorism in the Arab world," Anzour added, accusing the Wahhabi extremist Saudis of being responsible for the "virus" of terrorism.
It presents an impoverished prince in exile who conquers the lands and continues to expand his dominion until he controls the better part of the Arabian Peninsula. This accomplishment, according to the film, demanded "single-minded ruthlessness" and a lot of blood.
This film also portrays Western imperialism as impinging on the monarch's independence, foreshadowing the kingdom's future entanglement in world affairs once the oil started to flow.
The adventurer, Anzour, rejected all baseless claims that related his international film with the current crisis that his country is facing. "Since a decade ago, my work concentrated on facing terrorism," he said, listing famous series that he had directed to warn of extremism.
He further elaborated that his company is the only funder of the Kings of the Sands. "We have started to work on it before the oil kingdom launched its terrorism in Syria." In this contexts, he refused all allegations that the Syrian regime is behind the film. "These are merely baseless lies."
"My intention was to expose the religious fanaticism that Ibn Saud promoted and which is behind much modern day terrorism," Anzour told our website.
In parallel, Anzour emphasized that " in Syria, not only the regime is responsible of facing terrorism, every citizen carries this responsibility. As a director, I culminated a decade of work in an international film that reflects some realities."
On the Saudi front, the kingdom's authorities failed to conceal their growing anger over the screening of "King of the Sands" movie.
Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, son of the first monarch of Saudi Arabia King Abdul Aziz and a senior member of the Saudi royal family, said that Saudi Arabia has already expressed its discontent with the screening of King.
Moreover, he considered it as a great disrespect towards Saudi Arabia's founder King Abdul Aziz.

Talal also slammed the director of the film, Aznour. "We have already made contacts with President Bashar al-Assad via a mutual friend to bring the screening of the movie to an end in the Arab country" Talal unveiled, predicting that the fate of the film is the "trash".
With a confident laugh, Anzour accepted the Saudi prince's bet. "Let's see."
This comes as the King of the Sands has already found a wide range of audience in the world despite its ban on almost all the Arab screens. " Maybe it would be only broadcasted in Dahyieh after Europe," the director said, with his usual sense of humor.
On the reasons behind the Saudi media campaign against the film, Anzour explained "they failed to ban us in London via legal paths. They are afraid of their dirty history."
However, he still bets on some rational men in the Gulf Kingdom away from the Wahhabi Takfiri rulers and murderers spreading chaos in our region.
In clear words full of patriotism, the man, mingled with love to his country, assured all his followers, " We'll keep the pledge...We are victorious."
