A political analyst says Saudi Arabia supports al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists such as the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) to establish an independent state in Iraq, Press TV reports.
In an interview with Press TV, Sabah Jawad, director of Iraqi Democrats against Occupation, cited press reports from Baghdad that some of the captured terrorists in the western province of al-Anbar had announced that they seek to declare an independent state in the province.
“And that state when it is declared is going to be recognized by one [Persian] Gulf state presumably Saudi Arabia. So, obviously the Saudis are very keen to bolster their…campaign in Syria and they want to create havoc in the Middle East basically,” he added.
“This Saudi regime has gone mad. They know that they cannot survive in the 21st century and therefore they want to stay in power by creating sectarian wars in the Middle East,” the commentator stated.
Jawad added that Saudi Arabia has alliances and cooperation with the Israeli regime to create chaos in the Middle East.
The cities of Fallujah and Ramadi in the al-Anbar Province have been the scene of deadly clashes between the Iraqi army and al-Qaeda-affiliated militants over the past days.
On Monday, Iraqi forces killed 30 ISIL militants in Fallujah. Local tribesmen supporting the Iraqi government also killed three militants and injured four others in Ramadi.
The violence broke out on December 30, 2013, when the army removed an anti-government camp in Ramadi. Authorities said the camp was used as “headquarters for the leadership of al-Qaeda.”
The violence later spread to Fallujah, where security forces had withdrawn from some areas.
