On Sunday, the organized Jewry blasted London-based weekly news magazineEconomist for posting a political cartoon by Peter Schrank, depicting president Barack Obama with his ankle shackled to Seal of the US Congress dotted with Israeli Star of Zion, symbolizing Israel’s control over America’s foreign policy in the Muslim world.
The cartoon topped an article on talks between the US and Islamic Republic, published by this week’s Economist. The truth published on Saturday was removed from magazine’s website on Monday as result of Jewish and pro-Israel lobby campaign.
The Economist was founded in 1843 by James Wilson, a British banker associated with the Jewish Rothschild banking empire. Many of members of Rothschild family are shareholders and on staff of the weekly. The Economist is known for its pro-Israel contents. Eylon Eslan-Levy, a member of British Jewish Lobby, wrote in The Times of Israel (January 19, 2014) that people at the Economist are not ‘antisemites’, but unfortunately the cartoon provided another excuse for Muslims to hate Jews and Israel.
America’s top Israel lobbyist, Abraham Foxman called for the Economist to make a “full-throated apology”, which not only acknowledges the offensive nature of the cartoon but explains to readers why this image implying Jewish control was so outrageous and hurtful.
So, was the Economist telling the truth by mistake? In 1997, the Fortune magazine called AIPAC the second most powerful lobby in America. Since that time, AIPAC’s star has risen steadily, and is now widely regarded as the most powerful lobby in the world. The Israel-First Newt Gingrich said, “AIPAC is the most effective general interest group….. across the entire planet.” Jeffrey Goldberg said, “AIPAC is a leviathan among lobbies.” According to Senator Fritz Hollings, ”You cant have an Israel policy other than what AIPAC gives you around here Capitol Hill.”
“Today, when AIPAC sends a letter demanding Congressional support for a political position, almost every single congressman immediately signs it. Virtually every major US politician over the last 3 decades has attended the annual AIPAC conference on more than one occasion, and most serious presidential contenders fly to Israel to seek approval and financing before embarking on their campaigns. AIPAC’s own website even used to boast about how many pieces of legislation it was responsible for,” says Alcibiases Bilzerian. Read more here.
British journalist, Jonathan Cook, posted on his blog on January 21, 2014. “To my mind, this cartoon underestimates the influence of the Israel lobby in Congress, certainly on issues relating to the Middle East – which, after all, is what the cartoon is about. Most analysts, even very conservative ones, nowadays concede that the lobby is extremely powerful in Congress, as occasionally do lobby members themselves.”
