UN Envoy: The two-state solution is on “life-support”

Netherlands-born Robbert Sherry, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace (UN envoy to the Quartet), in abrief to the UN Security Council on January 23, 2013, said that unless the UN and other world powers take immediate practical action to push for a two-state solution to Israel-Palestine conflict, the western agenda to maintain the presence of Israel in the Middle East “could be dire for everyone”. He also stressed that absence of serious engagement, the peace process would remain on “life-support” and stability on ground would be put at further risk. “Entering the coming critical period, concerted action will be vital if we are to salvage the two-state solution,” said Sherry.

On February 26, 2013, The Times of Israel, quoted US secretary of state John Kerry saying: “President Barack Obama will not present a new peace initiative when he visits Israel and the Palestinian territories next month, and instead is coming to listen to Israeli leaders“.

On February 11, 2013, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu told his cabinet that Iran’s nuclear program and a regime change in Damascus would top the issues he would dicuss with Barack Obama during later’s first visit to Israel as president of United States. Netanyahu added that both leaders would discuss how to restart the stalled peace negotiations between Israeli government and PA president Mahmoud Abbas, whose mandate had expired in January 2009 – but is kept on the throne by US-Israel-EU as a counter-balance to the elected government of Hamas.

This Netanyahu-Obama-Abbas “negotiation charade” reminds me of a recent article written by veteran British journalist and author Alan Hart, titled ‘What do Obama and Abbas have in common?‘.

Short answer – both are “grovellers”. The president of the United States of America grovels to the Zionist lobby and its neo-con and Christian fundamentalist allies. The Palestinian “president” grovels to Obama as well as Israel’s leaders more often than not. Obama and Abbas are, one could say, grovelling twins, but if there was the equivalent of a Nobel Prize for grovelling, it would have to be awarded to Obama,” wrote Alan Hart.

The “two-state solution”, given birth by the notorious 1917 Balfour Declaration, was buried alive on May 15, 1948 when David Ben Gurion, unilaterally, declared Jewish occupation over 54% of the historic Palestine. Later, in June 1967, Jewish army occupied additional 24% of Palestinian land. Since the so-called “Oslo Accords” signed in 1993 between Israel and PLO, the Zionist regime, with the help of the US, have been playing cat-and-mouse game with the Palestinians to swallow the remaining 22% of Palestinian land.

Veteran Israeli peace activist, Jeff Halper is of the opinion that the so-called “two state solution” is dead and we should stop talking about it. Halper believes that if the possibility ever genuinely existed – a subject historians are welcome to debate – it’s gone as a political option.

Netanyahu knows that the US funded Arab Spring has pitted Israel’s Arab neighbors against each other and therefore, their armed forces are not in the position to block Israel’s expansionism. And with the Israel-Firsters lawmakers controlling the US Congress and Senate, the White House is in no position to twist Netanyahu’s arms. Furthermore, the ‘Axis of Resistance’ (Iran, Syria and Hizballah) is pre-occupied with the foreign armed insurgency in Syria.

Three years ago, I posted a viable solution to the conflict, which would guarantee the rights of both the Natives and the foreign Jews occupying the land. I proposed a democratic one-state Palestine, based on ‘one-vote- one person’ with equal rights for all its citizen, dismantling of racist Zionist political parties and Israel Occupation Force (IOF), right of return for the natives and suitable compensations for their loss of properties to the Jew settlers – and of course the dismantling of country’s nuclear arsenal. All those racist Jews, who don’t want to live in peace with the Natives – they should be allowed to migrate back to their ancestral lands – Germany, Russia, Poland, France, the UK, the US, etc. – as many White settlers did in South Africa, Algeria and India.
