Clashes near Beirut’s Sports City Kill One Person
One person was killed and several others wounded on Sunday in clashes between Salafists and supporters of Arab Movement leader Shaker al-Berjawi near the Sports City center in Beirut.
The clashes erupted during the early hours of Sunday in the southern district of Gharbi.
The Internal Security Forces said that 13 people were wounded in the unrest. The army has since intervened to contain the fighting which lasted for more than five hours.
Rocket-propelled grenades and machineguns were used in the fighting.
A spokesman for the Mustaqbal Movement denied to the media claims of the existence of Salafists in the area which have seen many terrorists attack all done by militants used by extremist groups as investigations have revealed.
Berjawi accused supporters of the Mustaqbal Movement of being behind the unrest.
