The Iraqi government declared on Tuesday a state of maximum alert following violent attacks by the do-called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' militias in the northern part of the country.
Takfiri militants of the so-called ISIL controlled during the last hours several governmental and private sector banks in Mosul city the center of Nineveh province, after controlling several neighborhoods in the area.
“The ISIL gunmen have also freed hundreds of prisoners and detainees from Badoosh prison among them detainees for terrorist charges,” media outlets reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iraqi Security Forces controlled the building of Nineveh Governorate after clearing the building from the terrorist gunmen.
“The ISF cleared the Nineveh Governor Building from the gunmen of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant after a combat in which both sides used light and medium weapons,” IraqiNews website reported.
“The Nineveh Governor Building is now under the control of security forces,” the source added.
The gunmen of the ISIL have controlled the Nineveh Governor Building of central Mosul city since Monday night.
For his part, Iraqi Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, called to overcome the disputes to face the foreign invaders.
During the press conference that he held at the parliament building, Nijaifi said “Cooperation of all sides is required at the current stage because we have a foreign invasion by the terrorist groups that exploit the security leaders.”
